The Arizona Wildcats are no longer the best team in college basketball — at least that’s what the new rankings will say when released on Monday. With a nail-biting road loss to the unranked California Golden Bears on Saturday, Arizona will be surrendering it’s No. 1 spot to the undefeated Syracuse Olrange.

California went into Saturday’s battle with Arizona as a real dark-horse to uproot the Wildcats, but that’s exactly what Mike Montgomery‘s club did. In fact, this last-second win over Arizona might have just propelled the Bears into the top 25 and the Wildcats all the way down to the No. 4 slot. Either way, the game-winning shot from Cal’s Justin Cobbs is already the biggest play of the season as it’s sure to cause a ripple down effect throughout the collegiate ranks.

You know the Orange fanbase couldn’t be more excited as the Bears’ victory seals Jim Boeheim‘s team’s fate as the top club in the nation. However, if the Orange weren’t able to squeak out an overtime victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night then, Billy Donovan‘s Florida Gators would likely be wearing the crown as the nation’s top basketball program.

Needless to say, the Bears’ classic victory over the Wildcats definitely gives us college basketball fans something to talk about as the month of February will now serve as a battleground for all of the teams looking to play a part in the spectacle that is March Madness.
