Indiana State Has Shot At Upsetting Wichita State

Entering it’s game against the Wichita State Shockers, the Indiana State Sycamores have the best shot of the remaining teams to end the Shockers’ perfect season.

If the Shockers are going to lose a game in the regular season this year, it will be in Terre Haute at the hands of the Sycamores.

The Sycamores are by far the best team besides Wichita State in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State is 8-2 in conference play and have a three-game lead on third place. None of the other teams have a conference record over .500 and only three of those teams have a winning record on the season. The Sycamores have proved that they’re a quality team this season with wins over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Belmont Bruins.

This is a rematch of a game earlier this season that the Shockers won handily, but things could be different the second time around. The Sycamores experienced an off day on the offensive end, shooting just over 30 percent from the field in the first meeting. To beat a top-10 team you have to shoot better than that. Leading scorers Jake Odum and Manny Arop scored seven and four points respectively on just 10 combined shots. If those players take more shots and score the points expected out of them, the rematch will be a different game.

Wichita State already has things going wrong for them as their flight was delayed from Tuesday to Wednesday morning. It will be interesting to see if that plays any role in the game as it has knocked the Shockers off their normal routine.

Wichita State has handled passed every test so far this season, but they should beware of this Indiana State team. The Sycamores have a chance for revenge on the beat down they suffered earlier this season and get to do so on their home floor.
