The San Diego State Aztecs were coming off of a rare loss as they suffered a setback this past Tuesday at Wyoming. At 22-2, the Aztecs are not accustomed to losing and tonight’s contest against Air Force was going to be an interesting test to see how they would respond.

The Aztecs pulled out the victory, but not by as much as you’d expect against a team that’s as bad as Air Force. The Falcons entered the contest at just 4-8 in Mountain West Conference play. With their home crowd behind them, San Diego State should have dominated this inferior foe, yet only eked out an eight-point win.

The Aztecs have looked far from impressive over the past few weeks. Along with their recent loss to the Cowboys, San Diego State needed OT to get by Utah State and edged Boise State by just a bucket a couple of games later. If the top team in the Mountain West has hopes for a high seed come NCAA tournament time, they must continue to pile up the wins and avoid any future setbacks.

This conference has experienced much success recently. However, this is a down year for the Mountain West as New Mexico may be the only other team to a receive a bid to the Big Dance.

San Diego State is currently projected as a three seed, according to ESPN’s Bracketology. With six games to go before the conference tournament, anything other than an unblemished record could see the Aztecs have their stock drop much further.
