Syracuse Orange Stay Perfect, But Will Soon Lose To Duke Blue Devils
The Syracuse Orange are currently undefeated with a spotless 25-0 record on the season. However, to say that Jim Boeheim‘s club has gotten lucky several times over the past few weeks would be a bold understatement. Put simply: the Orange’s last two wins have come at the hands of a buzzer beater and a game-winning steal and layup. Needless to say, both the Pittsburgh Panthers and the NC State Wolfpack have exposed Syracuse to an extent.
Thankfully, the Orange can take a little bit of a breather as Syracuse won’t take the court until February 19th against the 6-18 Boston College Golden Eagles. Moreover, the biggest game of the college basketball season to date will then be played a few days later at Cameron Indoor Stadium against the Duke Blue Devils.
Duke and Syracuse locked horns earlier in January as the Orange escaped the jaws of defeat like usual with a 89-91 overtime victory. This time, the outcome is going to be very different. Duke might have five more losses than the Orange, but the Blue Devils have yet to lose a game in front of their home crowd just like Syracuse.
Furthermore, Duke appears to be hitting its stride as the deadly freshman combination of Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood has been devastating to opposing defenses. Besides, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski knows a thing or two about late-February battles within the ACC, so don’t be surprised when the Orange’s improbable perfect season is halted at 26 games.
