Bubble Watch

It’s the last week of the season, and that means it’s time for me to look at the bubble and figure out who’s going to be in and who’s going to be out.

I am going to look at the teams whose bubbles are sure to burst this week. These teams either have difficult games to end the season that will prohibit these teams from getting to .500 in their conference or have games that are likely un-winnable in a must win situation.

The teams also have a few things in common. They all have been wildly inconsistent, and they all have been prone to losing streaks. These losing streaks have put them in their current bubble situation in the first place, and it'll be because of those streaks that they end up being on the outside looking in when March Madness rolls around.

These teams have had a problem stringing together multiple wins, and have problems winning on the road. They also happen to be in a conferences that is already close to maxed out on NCAA tournament bids. The Tournament Committee is only going to so many teams from each conference, and they are all one loss away from experiencing the disappointment that comes with missing out when the tournament field is announced.

So, here are the five teams you count on to have their bubbles burst this week.

5. Baylor Bears

Dan Friend-USA TODAY Sports

Baylor already has 10 losses, and they finish the regular season with No. 16 Iowa State and road trip to Manhattan to face Kansas State. The Bears are 7-9 in the Big 12, and no Big 12 team has ever made the tournament with a losing conference record. They have to win both games this week to get to .500 in conference, and that’s not going to happen .

4. Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Cornhuskers' record currently sits at 17-11 and they finish the season with a trip to Assembly Hall to face a suddenly resurgent Indiana, and then host a Wisconsin Badgers team that will be trying to get a No. 1 seed. Nebraska would have to win both to avoid a 13-loss season. The Huskers’ bubble will burst this week.

3. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden Gophers have already lost four of six, and will finish the Big 10 schedule this weekend with a losing conference record regardless if they win or not against Penn State to close out the season. The Gophers' bubble has probably already burst, but it will definitely burst in silence with the closing of the regular season.

2. Tennessee Volunteers

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The Volunteers will have to tame two sets of Tigers to get in the Big Dance this week, Auburn and Missouri. To do that, the Vols will have to find something they haven’t found all season: consistency. They have been wildly inconsistent all year, and winning both games this week means the Volunteers would have won four in a row in the conference to end the season. Their longest winning streak in the conference this year is two.

1. Florida State Seminoles

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Seminoles stand at 17-11 with a final regular season game at home against No. 7 Syracuse. To get off the Bubble they would have beat Syracuse and then still make a strong run in the ACC tournament. Considering Syracuse has already gone through their bad stretch, and will be looking to get back to their normal selves in time for the NCAA tournament. Sounds like too tall of an order for the Seminoles, its time to pop their bubble.
