Bold Predictions for NCAA Basketball Conference Tournaments

The funny thing about bold predictions is the fact that they either make a person look like a complete genius or like a person who should not be making bold predictions. Hopefully all 10 of these bold predictions for the NCAA basketball conference tournaments come true so I actually look like I know what I am talking about.

Whether the case, bold predictions shouldn’t be no-brainers or the popular pick. For example, predicting the Florida Gators to win the SEC is not a bold prediction. It is simply a prediction that I am sure a lot of people are expecting to actually happen.

At the same time, bold predictions cannot be too bold. TCU is going to win the Big 12 tournament. Too bold? Let’s just put it this way, the Horned Frogs haven’t even won a conference game yet and they only have one game remaining in the regular season.

Although I would like all 10 of these predictions to come true, I am sure that will not be the case. If so, they probably wouldn't be bold enough or I secretly have a crystal ball that shows me the future. Note: I do not have a crystal ball.

There is nothing better than an underdog winning its conference tournament. Especially when that team had no chance of making the NCAA tournament unless if it won its conference tournament.

Although I am not sure if that will happen this year or not, things are going to surprise us during conference tournament season. Upsets, Cinderellas and buzzer beaters are what this month is all about.

I would like to welcome you to March Madness.

Before all of the conference tourneys tip-off, let’s take a look at 10 bold predictions.

Oklahoma State Cowboys Will Win the Big 12 Tourney

Oklahoma State Cowboys
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

This wouldn't have been bold entering the season, but Oklahoma State has disappointed quite a bit. At one point the Cowboys were on a seven-game losing streak and didn’t even look like an NCAA tournament team.

Well, they are riding a four-game win streak now and will end up winning the Big 12 tourney.

Neither Villanova or Creighton Will Win the Big East

Big East basketball
Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

Villanova and Creighton are the only locks in the Big East. Both have been great all season long and both are talented enough to win a national championship. However, I am predicting that neither one will win the Big East tournament.

Teams like Providence, Xavier, St. John’s and maybe a couple of others are more than capable of taking home the title. It doesn’t matter which one does, as long as the Bluejays and Wildcats don’t.

Neither Marcus Smart or Andrew Wiggins Will Win Big 12 Tourney MVP

Marcus Smart and Andrew Wiggins
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Marcus Smart and Andrew Wiggins have been flooding the headlines all season long. That is not going to change. However, neither will win the Big 12 tourney MVP.

My guess is a player from Iowa State will, but as long as Smart and Wiggins don't my prediction is safe.

Dark Horse Will Win MW and Crash the Dance

Mountain West Conference Basketball
Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

New Mexico and San Diego State are the only MW teams that are going to make the Big Dance this year. However, what if a dark horse comes away with the conference title? Well, then that would mean three teams out of the MW would make the tourney and that is exactly what I am predicting to happen. UNLV or Boise State could be that lucky team.

Arizona Wildcats Will Not Win Pac-12

Arizona Wildcats Basketball
Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona is by far the best team in the Pac-12. The Wildcats are a top five team in college basketball so no team in this conference should take that personal. However, the Pac-12 is very deep and Arizona could easily go down.

Kansas Won’t Make Big 12 Championship

Kansas Basketball
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas is the best team in the Big 12. The Jayhawks will enter the tournament as the favorites, but they won’t even make the championship game.

For the record, this conference has 10 teams -- maybe the Big 12 should change its name -- and seven of those teams should make the NCAA tournament.

Dayton Flyers Will Win Atlantic 10

Dayton Basketball
Rob Leifheit-USA TODAY Sports

Saint Louis was dominating the Atlantic 10. Then, the Billikens lost three games in a row. Regardless, this is one of those conferences that could have a number of different winners.

I would say five for sure make the dance, but I am predicting six. That is because I am also predicting the Dayton Flyers to win the A 10 tourney which will lead to that automatic bid.

The Flyers are on a two-game win streak and have a solid record (21-9).

Conference USA Will be the Most Exciting

Conference USA basketball
Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Conferences like the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC are naturally going to get the most buzz and probably the most viewers. However, the Conference USA is going to be the most exciting.

There are currently four teams tied at the top of the conference standings and another team is just one game back.

Minnesota, Nebraska or Indiana Will Make Big Ten Title Game

Big Ten basketball
Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

This one will probably not happen, but a kid can dream. Nebraska, Minnesota and Indiana have all pulled off upsets in the Big Ten this year and all three are either on the bubble or could be brought up in the bubble conversation.

Bubble teams either crumble or step up this time of the year and I am predicting that one of these teams will step up and end up in the Big Ten title game.

Florida Gators Will Win Every Game in SEC Tourney By 10+

Florida basketball
Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

Florida is by far the best team in the SEC. The Gators do have a 17-0 record in the conference. They are predicted to win the conference tournament. There are still some talented teams in the SEC and winning every single game by 10+ points would be good for any team in the country. It probably won’t happen, but that is why they call it a bold prediction.
