This is the final week of the season before the 2014 NCAA tournament takes place. That means this is the final week of the season bubble teams can make a case for the dance. Regardless, all 25 teams in the college basketball top 25 rankings for Week 19 should be safely in the field as of right now.
That can change in a hurry, though.
Michigan State needed a big victory and it got it against Iowa. However, then it lost the last game of the regular season to Ohio State.
Last Week: 25
Ohio State was another Big Ten team that needed a big victory before conference tournaments began and it got that victory against Michigan State.
Last Week: NR
Connecticut had a great regular season, but it will have to take on Memphis in the AAC tournament. The Huskies swept the season series.
Last Week: 21
Capturing the third seed in the AAC tournament was very important. Instead of playing a ranked team, the Mustangs will take on Houston first.
Last Week: 19
New Mexico was so close to winning the Mountain West regular season title, but it didn’t. Still, this is a team to watch out for in March.
Last Week: 20
VCU is finally back in the rankings where it belongs. The Rams closed out the season by winning four straight and have a lot of momentum heading into postseason play.
Last Week: NR
Memphis has played three ranked opponents in a row and it will get another one in its first game of the AAC tournament. To make matters even worse, the Tigers will take on Connecticut. They have yet to beat the Huskies this season.
Last Week: 18
Oklahoma closed out the season by winning three games in a row. The Sooners finished No. 2 in the Big 12 standings.
Last Week: 23
After three straight losses Saint Louis finally won and locked up the Atlantic 10 regular season title.
Last Week: 17
Iowa State has a very tough matchup right off the bat in the Big 12 tournament. It will take on Kansas State. These two teams split the season series.
Last Week: 16
North Carolina may have lost its last regular season game against Duke, but that was the first loss since Jan. 20.
Last Week: 15
Creighton had one heck of a year in the Big East. This was the Bluejays’ first year in the conference and they showed they can keep up with some of the best teams in college hoops.
Last Week: 11
Cincinnati capped off the season with a two-game win streak and a share of the AAC title. Not bad for a team that wasn’t expected to win the conference.
Last Week: 12
Syracuse won just twice in its last six games of the season. Hopefully the Orange got their losing out of the way because it would be a huge disappointment if they had a short NCAA tournament.
Last Week: 6
Wisconsin may have lost its last game of the season, but Nebraska is on the verge of making the dance and the Badgers entered that game on an eight-game win streak.
Last Week: 10
It is only natural that Michigan is the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. The Wolverines won the regular season title -- without Mitch McGary -- and they have won five games in a row.
Last Week: 14
Kansas has lost two of three, but it has still been one of the best teams in the country ever since Big 12 play started.
Last Week: 8
San Diego State may have been one of the biggest surprises this season, but it will enter the tournament as one of the best teams.
Last Week: 13
Before losing to Maryland, Virginia already had the ACC regular season title in the bag and was on a 13-game win streak.
Last Week: 5
Yes, Duke finished behind Virginia in the conference standings, but the Blue Devils beat the Cavaliers in their only meeting and just got done beating a red-hot North Carolina team. That victory cancels out a loss to Wake Forest for me.
Last Week: 4
Louisville managed to beat SMU and Connecticut in the last two games of the season. The Cardinals also managed to win a share of the AAC title.
Last Week: 9
Brandon Ashley on the team or not, Arizona was bound to lose sooner or later in the talented Pac-12 Conference. And it did. Three times.
Last Week: 3
Villanova’s only losses this year have come against Syracuse and Creighton (twice). You better believe that this team is in line for a No. 1 seed.
Last Week: 7
Perfect. That is one way to describe the undefeated Wichita State Shockers.
Last Week: 2
Florida capped off a perfect regular season in the SEC. Winning the SEC tournament should guarantee the Gators the overall No. 1 seed in the 2014 NCAA tournament.
