Boston College Basketball: Eagles Most Likely Opening Day ACC Tournament Team To Make Run

Most teams do not win five straight games all season when conference play commences and winning five games in five days is even more impossible to believe. But if there is one team that can do this in the ACC tournament, it is the Boston College Eagles.

Coach Steve Donahue‘s team has the best shot of doing this because the Eagles have a player in sophomore Olivier Hanlan who can take over games and everyone knows having that type of talent can carry any team into the weekend. Looking at the Eagles’ record of 8-23 (4-14 ACC) makes this kind of talk sound ludicrous, but BC was the first team to knock down the Syracuse Orange and the Eagles did this on the road because Hanlan scored 20 points and knocked down a crucial three-pointer in overtime.

Hanlan — a third team All-ACC pick — averaged 18.6 points per game during this season and has the skills to put up big-scoring numbers which is evident with his 12 20-plus scoring games during the season. Hanlan had a 38-point game this season and is a player who can catch fire and knock down a bunch of shots in a short period of time. Hanlan also does not fear taking a game over and in tournament games that can play a major role.

It definitely is way more likely that none of the teams playing Wednesday will even get by Thursday’s games, but when a team has a scorer like Hanlan, there is at least a little bit of hope that some early March magic can happen in the ACC tournament.
