Although their chances might be slim, the North Carolina State Wolfpack are still alive for receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament
The Pack picked up a huge win tonight in the second round of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro. Mark Gottfried‘s squad defeated the Miami (FL) Hurricanes by a score of 67-58 behind the outstanding play of ACC player of the year, T.J. Warren. Warren had 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
With the win, NC State moves on to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals to take on Jim Boeheim and the No. 11 nationally ranked Syracuse Orange. Not too long ago when these two teams met at the Carrier Dome, Warren and company gave the Cuse all they could handle. Boeheim’s bunch escaped with a one point victory, but NC State certainly showed that they have the ability to beat them.
As it stands now, the Wolfpack are 20-12 overall and they finished the regular season with a 9-9 mark in the ACC. With several bubble teams losing today such as Arkansas, California and St. John’s — as well as BYU the other night — NC State has a tremendous opportunity in front of them. Especially when you consider the fact that they’ll have 90 percent of the crowd behind them tomorrow night in Greensboro, NC.
Their resume might not be overwhelming, but it’s solid enough to where they still have a legitimate shot to dance. Knocking off Syracuse would make things awfully interesting for the Pack come Selection Sunday. Let’s see if they have what it takes to pull it off.
