New Mexico Reigns Supreme in Mountain West Conference

The New Mexico Lobos feature a cast of characters that can rival any team in the country as made evident in the Mountain West championship game that saw the Lobos cut down the nets after a thrilling game. The season series between New Mexico and the San Diego State Aztecs was split, each winning at home, and this game lived up to the previous matchups and more. These two conference heavyweights traded blows throughout the game in a physical up and down contest that had a flair for the dramatic at the end as Kendall Williams sank a deep three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining.

As New Mexico lifts the Mountain West tournament trophy, the Aztecs will feel dejected after a heartbreaking loss to their conference foe. New Mexico defeated San Diego State 64-58 in a game that was close throughout. Williams asserted his dominance through the contest scoring 16 points while also recording three rebounds and three assists. Cameron Bairstow and Alex Kirk punished the Aztecs down low combining for 25 points and 19 rebounds as San Diego State’s Xavier Thames could not lift his team to victory down the stretch.

The Lobos are a sleeping giant heading into the NCAA tournament as the tea possesses weapons few teams have an answer for. Williams is one of the most underrated point guards in the country as he averages 16 points and five assists per game while being able to come up big in the clutch. Bairstow and Kirk possess man strength while being bruisers in the low post, but the duo is also capable of hitting shots from the outside when necessary.

The Lobos can matchup against any team in the country in all facets of the game which makes the team deadly as it possesses all the qualities of a national champion.
