It’s the battle of the States! San Diego State may be the higher seed, but it cannot take New Mexico State lightly. The Aggies beat the New Mexico Lobos earlier in the season. New Mexico just got done beating the Aztecs. Translation: New Mexico State has the talent to pull off the upset.
What to Watch For
Xavier Thames is naturally going to get the most attention. He is the leading scorer of the Aztecs and was the MW Player of the Year. Don’t get me wrong, Thames is definitely going to be one to keep an eye on, but he is not the only good player in this the game.
Daniel Mullings is going to have to play a great game if the Aggies are going to have a shot. He is the leading scorer and assist man.
One player who will be really hard to miss is New Mexico State’s Sim Bhullar. Bhullar stands at 7-foot-5. He is going to be the biggest player on the court no matter who the Aggies face. Unfortunately, they may only play one team…
San Diego State has beaten teams like Creighton and Kansas. New Mexico State hasn’t. The Aztecs have been one of the best teams in college hoops for most of the season and they should be poised for a deep run in the dance. However, that doesn’t mean this matchup won’t be interesting. Every team earns its spot in the tournament. With that said, New Mexico State’s dancing party is only going to last one game.
