Record: 18-14

RPI: 182

BPI: 196

Conference: America East Conference

How They Qualified: America East Conference Tournament Champions

Region: Play-in for No. 16 seed in South

Albany managed to knock out the two best teams in the America East Conference tournament in back-to-back games. Not bad for a team that finished in fourth place in the conference standings for the regular season and a team that was not expected to win its conference tournament.

The Great Danes are barely over .500, but they made the dance, so now their record really doesn’t have any significance. Now it is all about surviving and moving on to the next round. Unfortunately, the Great Danes may have some problems with that.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Peter Hooley (15.7 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: Sam Rowley (6.7 rpg)

Leading Passer: DJ Evans (2.8 apg)

Bad Losses: New Hampshire, UMBC

Good Wins: Stony Brook (twice), Vermont

The Great Danes don’t have a whole lot of good wins on the season, but they also don’t have many bad losses. The wins that they do have are pretty impressive, though.

It is important to note that Albany took on Pittsburgh earlier in the year. That was probably the toughest team the Great Danes played all season and they only lost by 12 points on the road.

Four players are putting up 10+ points per game, but this team is not known for its scoring. In fact, it ranks 287th in the nation in points per game.

I am sure not many people expected this team to be dancing once the regular season ended, but that’s what makes college basketball so great.

The Albany Great Danes are dancing!
