Record: 27-6

RPI: 18

BPI: 28

Conference: Mountain West Conference

How They Qualified: Mountain West Conference Tournament Champions

Region: No. 7 seed in the South

The New Mexico Lobos earned a No. 3 seed in last year’s dance, but lost right off the bat against Harvard. New Mexico brought a lot of talent back from that team, but after three losses in its non-conference schedule no one really seemed to talk about it.

That is all fine and dandy because the Lobos still have a bunch of talent and they still could make some noise in the 2014 NCAA tournament. However, I am sure they will take one game at a time after last year’s upset.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Cameron Bairstow (20.4 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: Alex Kirk (8.7 rpg)

Leading Passer: Kendall Williams (5.0 apg)

Bad Losses: UNLV, Boise State

Good Wins: Cincinnati, San Diego State (twice)

Kendall Williams, Alex Kirk and Cameron Bairstow are all putting the ball into the hoop at a high rate. Braistow leads the team in scoring, but Williams is still averaging 16.4 points per game and Kirk is putting up 13.8 points per game. These three alone could carry the Lobos into the Sweet 16.

However, the tournament is all about matchups, so no team can get too far ahead of itself.

The Mountain West Conference was disappointing this season compared to last season, but teams like New Mexico and San Diego State are arguably even better than they were last year. It is time for both teams to show that in the dance.

The New Mexico Lobos are dancing!
