2014 NCAA Tournament Profile: North Carolina Tar Heels

By Trevor Lowry

Record: 23-9

Region – Seed: East – No. 6

RPI: 24

BPI: 29

Conference: ACC

How They Qualified: At-Large Berth

The North Carolina Tar Heels had a roller coaster ride of a season. They knocked off Louisville, Michigan State and Kentucky in their non-conference schedule, but also lost to UAB and Belmont. They even opened up ACC play with three straight losses.

Well, it looks like the Tar Heels are done being inconsistent. That is bad news for the rest of college basketball.

At one point North Carolina won 12 games in a row in the ACC. Roy Williams‘ team looks like a force once again and it should not surprise anyone if it makes a deep run in the 2014 NCAA tournament.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Marcus Paige (17.4 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: James Michael McAdoo (6.7 rpg)

Leading Passer: Marcus Paige (4.3 apg)

Bad Losses: UAB, Belmont, Wake Forest, Miami

Good Wins: Louisville, Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke, Pittsburgh

The loss to Belmont really isn’t that bad, but North Carolina should not be losing to mid-majors at home. It is that simple. As you can see by those other wins, the Tar Heels have some major victories and they can keep up with any team that is put in front of them.

For North Carolina to have any success, players like Marcus Paige and James Michael McAdoo will have to be stars. Leslie McDonald is also going to have to step up and he will have to be efficient from behind the arc.

Up and down season or not, this team has the talent to win a national championship.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are dancing!
