Record: 31-2

Region: No. 12 in the South

RPI: 57

BPI: 73

Conference: Southland Conference

How They Qualified: Southland Conference Tournament Champions

The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks have only lost two games all season long. One came against Texas by 10 points on the road and the other came to East Tennessee State. With that in mind, the Lumberjacks have not lost since Nov. 23.

I don’t care how easy a team’s schedule may be, that is very hard to do. The schedule really has been easy for Stephen F. Austin, but it won the Southland Conference tournament regardless and will be playing in the Big Dance this year.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Desmond Haymon (14.3 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: Jacob Parker (7.1 rpg)

Leading Passer: Trey Pinkney (3.5 apg)

Bad Losses: East Tennessee State

Good Wins: Towson

I understand the Lumberjacks are a mid-major, but they really do not have many good wins in terms of beating top 25 teams, BPI and everything else that makes a team look good. Towson does emerge as a good victory for Stephen F. Austin, though. However, the Tigers lost in their conference tournament and will not be playing in the 2014 NCAA tournament.

We will get a much better idea on how good this team is once the dance actually takes place. Until then, the Lumberjacks are 31-2 and have won 28 games in a row. They also swept through their conference this season, so that is always a good thing. Time to see if they can beat much better competition on the biggest stage in college basketball against the best teams in the country.

The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are dancing!
