2014 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 3 Iowa State vs. No. 14 North Carolina Central
The Iowa State Cyclones are coming off of a Big 12 tournament championship. The Big 12 was arguably the best conference in college hoops, so that is kind of saying a lot. The Cyclones have beaten four quality opponents in a row and they look like a dark horse to win the national championship this season.
As for North Carolina Central, well, it is on a 20-game win streak. The Eagles beat North Carolina State earlier in the season on the road. That is a pretty good win for most teams in college basketball.
What to Watch For
Iowa State’s players are definitely going to get the most attention going into this game and they should. Melvin Ejim won Big 12 Player of the Year and DeAndre Kane is one of the top guards in college basketball. You can’t forget about Georges Niang, though. He is the third leading scorer on this team and is averaging 16.5 points per game.
The Cyclones’ offense is deadly and North Carolina Central is going to have its hands full with it.
Jeremy Ingram cannot go unnoticed and he probably won’t when the ball is tipped. The senior is averaging 20.6 points per game for the Eagles.
Iowa State. It is that simple. The Cyclones are one of the best teams in the country right now and their offense is really that good. It is almost impossible to cover every single player on Iowa State. North Carolina Central may have to do some double covering at times, but on who will be the question.
