The Dayton Flyers gave us a show right off the bat in the round of 64 of the 2014 NCAA tournament. They knocked off the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes. The No. 11 seed Dayton will now take on the No. 3 seed Syracuse Orange in the round of 32.
The Flyers are the real deal, people. Yes, Syracuse was the No. 1 team in the nation for a stretch during the regular season. Yes, the Orange made the Final Four last year and have one of the most talented teams.
What to Watch For
Tyler Ennis is one of the best point guards in college hoops, but C.J. Fair is playing in his final year and is the leading scorer. Regardless, both players are very talented and both could easily take over a game.
There’s probably not one player who is going to put up around 20 points for Dayton, but I guess it could happen. Only three players are averaging double figures in the scoring department on the Flyers.
The Atlantic 10 may be considered a mid-major conference, but it sure does get a bunch of teams into the dance. As much as I would like to say Dayton is going to pull off another upset and make it to the Sweet 16, I just don’t see it happening. Syracuse was the best team in the sport at one time this season and it sure looked good in its first game of the tourney. That doesn’t mean this contest won’t be interesting, though.
