Did anyone really expect the Dayton Flyers to make it to the Sweet 16? I am sure there are some people out there who did. Going into the 2014 NCAA tournament, predicting that would have been considered bold. With that in mind, let’s look at 16 bold predictions for the Sweet 16.

You can expect Dayton to be somewhere on this list.

And here the Flyers are. Dayton has beaten Ohio State and Syracuse in this tournament. That is hard to do for even the most talented teams in college hoops. Well, the Flyers are definitely not the most talented, but they are certainly on a role. Expect them to make the Elite Eight.

Isaiah Austin only averaged 11.2 points per game this season. He did score 17 last contest and 13 the one before that. If the Bears want to move on to the next round, they will give Austin the ball. A lot. That will result in him going off for 25+ points.

Florida’s Michael Frazier II Will Go Off

This one may not be too bold, but Michael Frazier II hasn’t had that good of an outing in the tournament so far. He has only scored a combined 13 points in two contests. He averaged 12.5 points per game on the year. Well, expect the 44.4 percent three-point shooter to unleash his shot on UCLA.

No. 6 seed Baylor will be taking on No. 2 seed Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. Either team could win that contest, but I am going with the Bears to pull off the upset. Their balanced scoring attack and a big game from Isaiah Austin will lead to that.

Florida Will Win With Ease

UCLA has been getting some buzz this tournament and for good reason. The Bruins are back in the Sweet 16 and have a bunch of talent. However, I am going with Florida in this one. Not only am I predicting the overall No. 1 seed to win, though, I am predicting the Gators to do it in blowout fashion.

Tennessee has now won three tournament games in this year’s dance. The Volunteers are playing like we thought they would the entire season. That is bad news for Michigan.

Shabazz Napier very well could be the best player left in the 2014 NCAA tournament. He is averaging 24.5 points per game in the tourney, but he will score 30+ in the next round.

This one isn’t that bold for the simple fact that Michigan State is a favorite to win the NCAA tourney. However, the Spartans are a No. 4 seed, people. Virginia is a No. 1 seed.

For the most part, Kentucky has disappointed all season long. Well, the Wildcats look great now and can knock off anyone in the tournament. They did just beat No. 1 seed Wichita State. Louisville is next. Kentucky beat the Cardinals earlier in the year and will do it again in the Sweet 16.

Keith Appling Will Have His Best Game of the Tournament

Keith Appling has been non-existent in the scoring department. He has scored a combined six points so far. Well, expect him to be the next Michigan State Spartan to come up big when it comes to putting the ball into the hoop many times.

Kentucky is already gaining some momentum, but after its win against Louisville, the Wildcats will make us think they are the best team yet again. They were the No. 1 seed coming into the year and they do have the most talent out of anyone.

Jarnell Stokes and Jordan McRae are going to go off for the Tennessee Volunteers. Expect Nik Stauskas to do the same for Michigan. As a result, this will be the most exciting contest of the Sweet 16.

Expect these two teams to battle it out until the final minute of the game. Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if this one ended in a buzzer beater. Virginia is the real deal and Michigan State is back to being one of the best teams. This should be a good one no matter what.
