The Dayton Flyers are hands down the most surprising team to have made it to the Sweet 16. With wins over Syracuse and Ohio State, they have every right to be the 2014 NCAA Tournament's lovable underdog. Here are five reasons that they are 2014's Cinderella Team.
A lot of people deemed the upset over OSU as the Buckeyes little brother getting the best of the state’s premier basketball school. In-state rivalries are what college basketball is all about.
The Atlantic 10 is one of the consistently talented conferences in college basketball, but their teams are still considered mid-majors. Part of being a Cinderella comes from being a mid-major team.
There has never been a seed higher then No. 11 go to the Final Four, but at No. 11 history may be smiling on the Flyers.
Of their 10 losses, only three were against teams that were better on paper. With seven glaringly bad losses, the Flyers were lucky to make the Big Dance.
If you look at the rest of the teams in the Sweet 16, they had winnable games to get there. Dayton, on the other hand, had to beat Ohio State and Syracuse to get to the Sweet 16.
