Connecticut Shows it Rules Madison Square Garden With Upset Over Iowa State

With the NCAA Tournament winding down, it’s starting to look like the Elite Eight that everyone wanted. However, the Connecticut Huskies are one of two surprise teams that have made a run and could potentially reach the Final Four with one more victory.

Defeating the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday evening behind the likes of Shabazz Napier, the Huskies look to be in great shape to make their fourth Final Four since 2004.

Napier was the story before, during and after the game and the big Sweet 16 game. Although DeAndre Daniels was the team’s leading scorer, 27, and rebounder, 10, Napier showed America just why he was so hyped up before the game.

Scoring 19 points, grabbing five boards, dishing five assists and swiping two passes, the Huskies’ star point guard proved he has what it takes to play ball at the next level, despite his lack of size.

Napier has been the clutch player and star for Connecticut all year long, leading to its improbable berth in this year’s Elite Eight and the best crack at a Final Four since the Jim Calhoun days. Napier has been the star of the tournament thus far, averaging just under 23 points, six rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, leading to three huge victories.

Everyone expected a second-round win for the Huskies, but defeating the Villanova Wildcats in round three and a huge win over a much more highly-touted Iowa State team in the Sweet 16 has definitely proved doubters wrong.
