Allen is considered by scouts to be one of the, if not the, best shooter in this incoming freshmen class. He has the kind of the game that has to be making Blue Devils fans look back to the days of Jay Williams and J.J. Redick. He loves pulling up for — and hitting — threes on the break even if no one is in front of him.
He adds that cocky-streak that makes his fans love him and the other Tobacco Road teams’ fans loath him. Essentially, he is the Duke basketball player the program has been missing and needs to have if coach Mike Krzyzewski wants to get back to the type of basketball that had him cutting down nets in April.
Allen just came off looking like a freak athlete when he won the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk competition. So while he can knock down the outside shot with the best of them, he can also attack the rim. Scouts think his defense needs work, but he can fix that. Allen is a scary player for Duke haters to think about going up against.
If Parker does return, Duke has to be the preseason national title favorite. But even if he does not, the addition of Allen along with the rest of Duke’s fantastic class will make the Devils a ridiculously fun team to watch.
