Texas Basketball: Rick Barnes Should Be Confident About Myles Turner’s Latest Comments
Earlier today, I released a post discussing how the No. 2 overall recruit Myles Turner was a must-sign for Texas Longhorns head coach Rick Barnes. Well after the latest comments by Turner concerning the 7-foot 5-star recruit taking his talents to Austin, Barnes can breath a little easier for the final stretch of Turner’s recruitment.
“It’s in my backyard. Hopefully I can come down there and make an impact like Kevin Durant had. If I were able to do that, that’d be pretty cool,” said Turner.
I think it’s safe to say Rick Barnes would have absolutely no problem giving Turner the reigns of his team and allowing him to potentially have a monumental impact on the program the way Kevin Durant did. Just think about it. Durant’s impact on Texas has been a key factor in the Horns likely landing a program-changing 7-footer.
Of course, those are some huge shoes to fill, but Turner feels the similarities with his favorite player are definitely there.
“He’s been my favorite player since he was a freshmen at Texas, and I actually got to play with him one time on a unofficial visit. We both have similar games.”
It’s highly unlikely that there will ever be another Kevin Durant, ever. But When you can’t have Durant, you take Turner, who just like Durant has a smooth jumper, can hit from deep and dominate around the rim. With how often Durant is found around the program during the offseason, Turner could live out his dream by being under the giant arms of the “Durantula” and learn a thing or two about how to become a legend in the city of Austin.
An official commitment from Turner is exactly what Barnes has been longing for and although these comments don’t eliminate all other teams from Turner’s consideration, the long tenured head coach of the Longhorns has much reason to feel confident in landing this future star.
