It has been just over a week since Michigan State and the college basketball world was shaken to their cores. The Spartans lost a true friend and a girl who was known to star big man Adreian Payne as a princess. Lacey Holsworth, a young girl from the East Lansing area developed a strong bond with Payne, and the two never let go.
After passing away just over a week ago, Holsworth’s battle with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer in children, was one of the top feel-good stories in sports. The young girl that touched millions of hearts became an angel after spending her childhood as a princess.
On Thursday, April 17, Michigan State held a service in her honor at, where else, the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich., right where Payne played his final collegiate games.
This tribute video for the young girl’s life was made for the event and it touched thousands of lives. Warning: you may need to grab a few tissues before watching this awesome tribute.
The young girl didn’t get to see many birthdays, but she did get to live a full life of experiencing things that not many people get to experience — in the words of Tom Izzo.
While it was a shock to everyone when she passed, the entire team and university came together and showed that she touched many hearts and will never be forgotten. This Michigan State team will not necessarily be remembered for an Elite Eight run, rather for befriending one of the strongest little girls to ever walk the earth.
