Chris Walker averaged a whopping 1.9 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game this past season. However, he also did not play very much. Regardless, Walker is the key to the Florida Gators’ success in the 2014-15 college basketball season.

Read on to see five reasons why.

Chris Walker stands at 6-foot-10 and he will be the most talented player on the court. Heck, he was probably Florida’s most talented player this past year, but he was not able to join the team right away.

There is a reason why Walker was the No. 12 ranked recruit in the 2013 class (via ESPN) and he is going to show us all why in the upcoming season.

Florida will have players like Dorian Finney-Smith, Kasey Hill and Michael Frazier II on the team next year, but Walker could be the go-to guy. Frazier II could also be that guy, but I would be surprised if it wasn’t Walker. However, I am also not Billy Donovan and don’t get to make those decisions.

Four seniors started for the Gators this past season, which means so much talent is leaving the team. It is up to players like Walker to carry the load in the upcoming season.

Walker did not receive the most playing time, but he still has some experience. He only averaged 4.8 minutes per game, but he also got some minutes in the 2014 NCAA tournament. Some time on the court is better than no time.

Florida did not have a true go-to guy this season. It could, however, count on a number of different players to score the basketball. The Gators could also count on their great defense to lead the team to victory.

Well, the 2014-15 Gators will have a brand new identity and Walker is going to be a big part of that. He needs to be if Florida is going to be one of the best teams in college hoops once again.
