The wait is finally over. Top Prospect Myles Turner announced that he will be playing for Texas. The Longhorns are now national title contenders.
Turner is ranked No. 2 in the class of 2014, according to ESPN.com. So, you better believe that this is big news for the Longhorns. Turner stands at 7-foot-0 and weighs 240 pounds. He has the talent to start for any team in the country and will more than likely start for Texas.
This could have not come at a better time for Texas. The team is coming off of a season where it finished 24-11 overall and 11-7 in the Big 12. Not many people expected that. Just imagine how good the team will be in the upcoming season with so much talent returning and one of the best freshman in the 2014 class joining.
Head coach Rick Barnes needed this and so did the Texas program. With the signing of Turner, Barnes showed that he can still recruit with the best of them. Not to mention, this shows that Texas is still a hot destination in college hoops. This could be huge for the basketball program moving forward.
Who knows what role Turner will play or how he will actually do at the college level, but my guess is that he would make an instant impact as a starter. That tends to happen when a player is the No. 2 recruit in his draft class.
If you thought Texas was good this past season, wait until you see them in the 2014-15 college basketball season. The Longhorns very well could be rocking a top 25 ranking entering the season and they very well could be holding up the trophy at the end of the year. Watch out Kansas and watch out college hoops.
