Top Michigan State Basketball Recruit Caleb Swanigan Reclassifies to 2015 Class
With the loss of guys like Keith Appling, Adreian Payne and Gary Harris, many think that Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans will be experiencing somewhat of a down-year in 2014-15. However, those close to the program know that’s far from true, but the 2015-16 season might be one of Izzo’s best after hearing the news that former 2016 forward Caleb Swanigan reclassified to the 2015 class.
What does this mean for the Spartans? Well, it definitely helps bolster the already-promising 2015 class, assuming Swanigan does commit to the Spartans.
The five-star big man from Fort Wayne, Ind., has the Spartans high on his list and 247Sports‘ Crystal Ball predicts the 265-pound center to go to Michigan State over Louisville.
Michigan State is already going after a few other five-stars and are high on their list as well. The Spartans will open up a handful of scholarships, making room for a wealth of talent to flow into the Michigan State locker room come 2015.
Four-star big man Deyonta Davis is already on board for 2015 and adding another big guy like Swanigan could make the Spartans’ frontcourt one of the scariest and youngest.
Swanigan is quite the beast, standing 6-foot-8 and weighing in at a hefty 265 pounds. While that might seem like the perfect size, Izzo might have to do his best job to get Swanigan in shape during his career if he does join the Spartans.
The highly-sought after recruit could make Izzo a very happy man in 2015 and could put an “off-year” from 2014-15 behind him.
Remember: an off-year for Izzo is a Sweet 16 appearance.
