At home, Nebraska is incredible. In the 2013-14 season, it went 16-1 at Pinnacle Bank Arena, with its only loss coming at the hands of Michigan. It beat all of its other Big 10 opponents in Lincoln, most memorably Wisconsin. The atmosphere led to a visibly shaken and distraught Badger side, one of the best in the nation. With its all star coach and improved team, it can easily manage to go undefeated on home soil.

Nebraska is poised for an even better season following its return to the Big Dance last year. With veterans returning, like Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields, who led the team last year in points and rebounds, success is a sure bet. Add in the leadership of Tim Miles and an emerging Tai Webster, and Nebraska is going to shake up the Big 10, throwing the usual suspects of Michigan State and Ohio State for a loop and ending the year third.

Terran Petteway received first-team All-Big Ten last year, averaging about 18 points and five rebounds a game. Even more astounding is that he did it all as a redshirt sophomore. With experience under his belt and a good supporting cast, he’ll likely repeat, if not better his 2013 performance and earn the same honors for the 2014 season.

In the shadow of Terran Petteway is Nebraska guard Shavon Shields, but he is not a player to overlook. Second on the Nebraskan score sheet with 12.7 points per game and first in rebounding with 5.8 rebounds per game, Shields is looking to better his stat line and support Petteway in leading the Cornhuskers this year. Standing at 6-foot-7, he’s a dynamic No. 2 guard, and will emerge as one of the best players in the conference.

Tim Miles won the Big Ten Coach of the Year for the 2013-14 season for his rapid improvement of the Cornhusker basketball program. Joining in 2012, Nebraska went 5-13 in the Big Ten, but locked Shavon Shields as their No. 1 incoming recruit. The next year, a drastic improvement occurred with the team, as they went 11-7 in arguably the most competitive conference in college hoops. He has a situation at Nebraska that will allow him to win again.
