The LSU Tigers come into the 2014-15 college basketball season off of a disappointing late-round NIT exit. The Florida Gators, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers and Ole Miss Rebels are all expected to, at least, compete for a 2015 NCAA Tournament berth. All four should definitely finish in the top 100 RPI, and LSU plays each of these teams twice this season.

3. Super Sophomores

Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey averaged 23 points and 12.5 rebounds per game last season as freshmen. With Johnny O’Bryant III moving on to the NBA and Anthony Hickey transferring to Oklahoma State, Martin and Mickey are going to shine offensively and improve in every statistical category.

2. Roster Depth

Next to the Kentucky Wildcats, the Tigers have the deepest roster in the SEC. They have two or three players at every position who could start on most college basketball teams; don’t forget about the arrival of future NBA-talented freshmen like 7-foot-1 Elbert Robinson.

As much as the overall record is important to the NCAA Selection Committee, big wins at the end of the season are just as important. With a final regular season game schedule against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Arkansas, LSU will have a legitimate opportunity to seal their place in the Big Dance.
