San Diego State Basketball: 5 Can't-Miss Games For 2014-15

San Diego State has been established as one of the west coast’s top basketball powers under the direction of coach Steve Fisher. Coming off a 31-win season in 2013-14, the Aztecs are again considered favorites to win the MWC and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for a sixth consecutive year. Here are five can’t-miss games for San Diego State in 2014-15.

The EA Sports Maui Invitational always presents teams with the opportunity to strut their stuff in front of a national audience. San Diego State gets their first such matchup against a Cougar squad featuring high-scoring guard Tyler Haws. Expect an entertaining, up-tempo affair between these two at the Lahaina Civic Center.

San Diego State gets their first taste of a hostile environment when they head to Seattle to take on coach Lorenzo Romar’s Huskies. Washington is coming off a 17-15 season that has Huskies fans hoping for a revival in 2014-15. Getting a victory over the Aztecs would represent a major step forward, setting the stage for a potentially memorable encounter.

The Aztecs get their final road test before conference play begins against a retooled Bearcats squad. Cincinnati has enjoyed great success under coach Mick Cronin, and Fifth Third Arena is always a tough place to play. Add it all up and San Diego State has an opportunity to overcome a difficult challenge before beginning MWC action.

The Running Rebels welcome one of the top recruiting classes in the country and are considered a team to watch this season. San Diego State gets their first look at UNLV at Viejas Arena in a contest that figures to carry plenty of attention across the country.

New Mexico has been established as a conference power in recent years with three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament under their belt. Road games in Albuquerque are always challenging, and you can bet Craig Neal’s team will be gunning for the Aztecs in their Feb. 17 matchup. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if this contest becomes San Diego State’s most memorable of the season.
