Coming off their sixth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Ohio State Buckeyes will have a different look heading into the 2014-15 season. Gone are the likes of LaQuinton Ross, Lenzelle Smith and Aaron Craft from last year’s 25-win outfit. Nevertheless, the Buckeyes welcome a talented group of newcomers that should keep coach Thad Matta’s team in the mix for another NCAA bid. Here are five early predictions for Ohio State in 2014-15.

The talented transfer from Temple should help offset the loss of Ross, who paced the Buckeyes offensively last season. A strong rebounder at 6-foot-9, Lee should emerge as one of Ohio State’s most dependable offensive weapons as the season progresses.

4. Shannon Scott Will Be Amongst the Big Ten’s Best Point Guards

Coming off a season in which he shared point guard duties with Aaron Craft, Shannon Scott takes over as the man to direct Ohio State’s attack in 2014-15. A reliable ball-handler, it wouldn’t be surprising if Scott improves on his 119 assists from last year and becomes one of the Big Ten’s best point guards in his senior season.

Rated a consensus five-star recruit nationally, Russell possesses the all-around skills to start from day one for Matta’s Buckeyes. A superb athlete and jump-shooter, Russell will emerge as a factor offensively from the start and figures to become one of Ohio State’s go-to players as the season wears on.

With teams such as Michigan and Michigan State losing key players off last-year’s teams, the Buckeyes have an opportunity to reclaim a spot in the Big Ten’s top-four before the end of the season. There is enough talent on hand for Ohio State to again become a contender in the Big Ten heading into 2014-15.

Even with the losses of Ross, Smith and Craft, Ohio State still has more than enough skill on hand to make another trip to the NCAAs. If Scott plays well at the point, Lee can step forward in the frontcourt and Russell is as good as expected, Buckeyes fans should enjoy yet another highly-successful season in 2014-15.
