The Georgia Bulldogs surprised everyone by finishing third in the SEC last season, especially after all three teams that went to the 2014 NCAA tournament from the conference made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Georgia benefitted from a weak schedule last season, but returns the majority of their talent and stands a legitimate chance at making the 2015 NCAA tournament.

The Bulldogs will return four of their top five leading scorers from last season, who averaged a combined 43.6 PPG. They also return three of their top four rebounders from the previous season, including the hardest working player you’ve never heard of, Nemanja Djurisic.

These returns all include one of the most exciting duos in college basketball, Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines. Both of these players have continued to get better while playing together and will look to do so again in their junior seasons. These two guards can take control of games for Georgia and help this team far exceed expectations.

Georgia’s schedule also aids them en route to a potential 2015 NCAA tournament berth. They face the Gonzaga, Seton Hall, Colorado, Mercer and Kansas State. All five of these games are winnable and should all look extremely good on a tournament resume. Add those on top of the fact that they only play Florida, LSU and Arkansas once, and Georgia is in prime position for a 21-win season.

Unfortunately for Georgia, a maximum of four teams from the SEC will go to the 2015 NCAA tournament. The Bulldogs will be competing with Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M and Alabama for the two potential spots behind Kentucky and Florida.

However, Georgia has many more things going for them coming into the 2014-15 college basketball season than several mid-level SEC teams. Expect big things from the Bulldogs, and I expect them to either gain an NCAA tournament berth or be a top-two seed in the NIT.
