The Kentucky Wildcats are hands down the favorites to win the SEC, but with one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in the country, it will be hard for BBN to finish the season undefeated. However, if they can win a few crucial games then the rest of the season should be a breeze. Here are the five most important games for UK’s 2014-15 season.

In my opinion, the Texas Longhorns are the most underrated team in the country and the biggest threat to the Wildcats once the NCAA Tournament begins. A dominating performance over this veteran team could give Kentucky momentum moving forward and, more importantly, dishearten Texas in a potential tournament match-up.

UNC is one of the more unknown teams going into this season. Marcus Paige is an elite college basketball player, but can the rest of the team work behind him? This could be a trap game, because their next three games are against UCLA, Louisville and Ole Miss.

The Kansas Jayhawks may be without Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid, but that doesn’t make them any less dangerous. A big win for Kentucky against the Jayhawks would be a statement win early in the season on a neutral court.

One of the greatest rivalries in college basketball, the Cardinals and the Wildcats tend to lose or gain momentum based on the outcome of this game. A win in Louisville could give Kentucky enough momentum to stomp through the SEC and finish with the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gators look to be Kentucky’s only true competition in the SEC and, with their match-up coming in the final game of the regular season, need to win this game or risk falling to a higher NCAA Tournament seed.
