The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the 2014-15 college basketball campaign needing to replace several key players from last season’s NCAA Tournament squad. Thankfully, coach Thad Matta still has plenty of talent at his disposal as the Buckeyes look to emerge as a Big Ten contender this season. Here are five early predictions for Ohio State’s statistical leaders once action gets underway.

Williams returns to the Buckeyes’ front-court after pacing the team with 62 blocks in his 35 starts as a junior in 2013-14. At 6-foot-10, Williams is a physical presence in the middle and should emerge as Ohio State’s best post-player in his senior campaign.

With Aaron Craft now gone from the Ohio State roster, Scott will be looked to as the Buckeyes’ leader in the back-court. Scott racked up 71 steals last season playing alongside Craft and figures to improve upon that number as the 2014-15 campaign moves along.

3. Shannon Scott – Assists

After finishing last season with 119 assists and just 65 turnovers, Scott will also be counted on to become Ohio State’s primary playmaker in 2014-15. With the return of Amir Williams and Sam Thompson to go along with the arrival of promising freshman D’Angelo Russell, the senior guard will have plenty of opportunities for more assists in his final season in Columbus.

2. Amir Williams – Rebounds

Williams is the only returner who grabbed more than 200 rebounds for Ohio State last season. The Detroit native also paced the Buckeyes in offensive rebounds a year ago and should continue his quality work on the boards for Ohio State in 2014-15.

Considered one of the best pure athletes in the Big Ten, Thompson seems poised for a breakout season as a senior in 2014-15. Thompson’s combination of leaping ability and shooting range figure to make him Ohio State’s most versatile and dangerous offensive option.
