North Carolina has arguably its deepest team since the 2008-09 National Title run. Luckily for Chapel Hill, the current roster compares favorably to some legendary players who have donned the Carolina argyle.

Marcus Paige’s deadeye shooting is comparable to Donald Williams, the 1993 Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament. Paige has proven to be streakiest in the clutch, but only time will tell whether he can replicate the cold-blooded, 25-point performance that Williams displayed in the national title victory over the Fab Five. An All-ACC performer as a sophomore, Paige recently became the top vote getter for preseason All-American.

J.P. Tokoto’s athleticism is similar to Vince Carter, but his offensive game does not warrant such a lofty comparison. Instead, Tokoto compares well to George Lynch. Tokoto, the best perimeter defender in the ACC, is incredibly athletic and a capable rebounder, but has an unreliable jump shot. Similarly, Lynch shot just 3-of-19 from three point range in his junior and senior seasons, but averaged 2.2 steals per game over that same time frame.

Justin Jackson is a less athletic Antawn Jamison. Jackson may only be a freshman, but has demonstrated an ability to score with a variety of unorthodox floaters, just like Jamison. Jackson led the McDonald's All-American game in scoring. He was also the top scorer during Late Night with Roy and in the Tar Heel's first preseason game. Expect Jackson's jersey to be hanging from the rafters before he graduates.

Brice Johnson has a soft touch around the rim, much like the unheralded Kris Lang. In his career, Lang quietly scored more than 1,000 career points on an efficient 55 percent from the floor. Johnson shoots efficiently as well (56.6 percent), especially when he turns over his left shoulder in the post. Johnson’s hook shot may never be as automatic as Lang’s, but it is awfully effective.

Kennedy Meeks has the potential to be every bit as dominate as Sean May, the 2005 Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament. Once May shed his baby fat, he became an unstoppable force. Meeks has lost approximately 50 pounds since matriculating into North Carolina, and is poised to become the best low post scorer, rebounder and outlet passer in the entire country.
