SEC Basketball Week 3 Power Rankings

John Calipari
Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Week 3 of the 2014-15 college basketball season and the SEC has looked to be the most unimpressive of the big-name conferences. Only five SEC teams remain undefeated, and it looks like that number could be getting smaller very soon. Here are the power rankings for the SEC going into Week 3.

The Gamecocks have already lost three games this season. Two of them were to stronger opposition, but three losses are three losses.

Expect this team to move around the power rankings constantly over the year. They struggled against Texas Southern, but look like they have the potential to win some big games down the stretch. Wait for this team to buy into Donnie Tyndall’s coaching style; it’s worked well for Kevin Punter.

Auburn was destroyed by Colorado, but K.T. Harrell and Cinmeon Bowers are two extremely good players.

See the slide before this one. MSU suffers from the having a weak record like Vanderbilt.

Georgia lost the opener to Georgia Tech, but has looked good since then. If this team can figure things out, then they can sneak into the top five.

LSU has the talent to succeed, but just can’t get it together. They are 3-1, but a bad loss to Old Dominion and close game to Texas Tech won’t look good to the selection committee.

The Crimson Tide are 3-0, but have a chance to prove if they are for real on Monday night against Iowa State.

The ranked Gators lost to unranked Miami. The Hurricanes, not the Heat, that is.

Arkansas is, in my opinion, one of the most dangerous teams in the country. Athletic, young and veteran, the Razorbacks have dominated their opponents to start the season.
