The ninth-ranked Texas Longhorns host the Stanford Cardinal in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

Texas is still without its best player, Isaiah Taylor, who has a broken wrist and is not expected to return until after the new year. Taylor was averaging 15 points per game when he went down in the third game of the season.

In Taylor’s absence, senior Jonathan Holmes has stepped up. Holmes scores 12.5 points per game, and leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per contest. Freshman Myles Turner continues to improve for Rick Barnes and his team. Turner is averaging 11.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Texas is 10-1 on the season, with the lone loss being a 63-51 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena. Texas played top-ranked Kentucky as tough as any opponent has all season.

Stanford is 6-3 so far this season under head coach Johnny Dawkins. The Cardinal lost to Dawkins’ alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils, earlier in the season. Duke is the only ranked opponent that Stanford has played so far this year.

Senior guard Chasson Randle leads Stanford in scoring, averaging 18.9 points per game. Randle is 39th in the country in scoring at this point. Another senior, Stefan Nastic is second on the team in scoring (15.1 points per game) and rebounding (7.2 rebounds per game). Anthony Brown is third on the team in scoring, at 12.6 per outing. Brown leads the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg).

This will be a big step up in class for Stanford, especially playing on the road. The Cardinal will need a big effort just to stay with the big, talented Longhorns.

Final score prediction: Texas 88, Stanford 68
