Move over Colorado St., San Diego St. and UNLV, it is time for a new team to conquer the Mountain West Conference. That team is the Wyoming Cowboys.

The Cowboys are 13-2 and 2-0 so far during conference play. The team is led by senior forward Larry Nance Jr. He is averaging 15.7 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 2.2 APG. The Cowboys only have two losses this season; the team has lost on the road at SMU and on the road against California.

The team has pulled off some great wins this season, including wins against Colorado and conference opponent UNLV. The Cowboys are not getting much credit because many of their out of conference wins are against weak teams, but now that conference play is starting up, they will prove why they can be legitimate contenders in the MWC.

The Cowboys have already proven that they can compete with a strong team by defeating UNLV, but a win against Colorado St. on Wednesday, Jan. 7 will show the rest of the country how good the Cowboys really are. Nance literally does everything for the Cowboys and his excellent play is crucial for the team to be successful. If Nance has an off night, so do the rest of the Cowboys. He had a huge game against UNLV and in his past five games he is averaging 21.6 PPG.

Nance has been on a roll lately and he is arguably the best player in the MWC. He will win the MWC Player of the Year if he can keep up his high level of play against some of the best teams in the conference.

The Cowboys will be a sleeper team once March comes around, and this mid-major team can knock off some teams from major conferences during the NCAA tournament.
