The Big East is hands down the most convoluted conference in all of college basketball. Every team in the conference has at least eight wins, and six of these teams already have 10 wins. With it highly unlikely that more than five teams from the conference make the 2015 NCAA tournament, it’s crucial to avoid early conference losses and get to 10 wins as quickly as possible.

Two of the nine win teams in the Big East face off on Tuesday night when the Marquette Golden Eagles travel to Verizon Center to face the Georgetown Hoyas.

Bad losses to Nebraska-Omaha and DePaul mean that Marquette must get it together very soon to avoid spiraling to the bottom of the Big East. These two games could mar the Golden Eagles’ resume for the rest of the season, meaning that a win away from home against a bubble team like Georgetown could make Marquette’s season.

The Hoyas seem to keep every game close, which will benefit them down the stretch. However, an inability to close against Xavier hurt their tournament resume a significant amount, because their other losses were against teams like Wisconsin and Kansas. Georgetown cannot afford to get behind in Big East play with another early loss.

Georgetown should win this one behind the elite scoring ability of D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. Marquette is a good team, but they will not be able to beat a very talented Hoyas’ team on the road. Look for Luke Fischer to have another good game; the future is bright for Marquette.

Prediction: Georgetown 79, Marquette 68
