Matchup: Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-7) vs. Florida Gators (8-6)

Yes, the Florida Gators are really 8-6. Although Florida was one of the top teams in college hoops last season (overall No. 1 seed in the tourney), losing four senior starters in the offseason has been tough on this team. Billy Donovan will have to do some serious coaching the rest of the way if he plans on getting this squad into the tournament.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs haven’t been any better, but they also didn’t enter the season by being ranked in the top 10. Stealing one on the road for the Bulldogs would be huge, and would put them at 1-1 in SEC play.

What to Watch For

Florida has talent all over the court. However, it is Michael Frazier II who is leading the team in scoring (14.3 PPG). Frazier II needs to take control of this team before it is too late. Too late seems to be rearing its ugly head, as the Gators didn’t capture a single marquee win in their non-conference schedule.

Three Bulldogs are averaging a little over 10 points per game. Translation: Mississippi State isn’t led by one player in the scoring department. To be exact, the team struggles to score as it is only averaging 60.5 PPG (314th in the country).

Prediction

Both teams could use some help in the scoring department, but Florida gets this one at home, has more talent and although the Gators are struggling so far, they have Billy Donovan, who has coached four straight teams to the Elite Eight.

Florida comes away with the W, and moves to 2-0 in conference play.

Mississippi State 63, Florida 75
