The Duke Blue Devils were ranked No. 2 in the country entering the contest with the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Apparently, that did not matter. NC State came away with the W, which proves that the ACC is wide open in 2014-15.

Sure, a case could be made that Duke was the second best (maybe best) team in the country coming in. The same case could not be made for the Wolfpack, though, who already have five losses on the season.

Make no mistake about it: The Blue Devils are still a top team in college hoops, and they were bound to lose sooner or later. However, if an unranked opponent like NC State can take out the No. 2 team in the country, you better believe the Louisville Cardinals, North Carolina Tar Heels, Virginia Cavaliers and many other ACC teams can do the same.

Gaining Louisville this season has only made this conference stronger — that is obvious.

This conference is absolutely stacked. After all, powerhouses like North Carolina, Louisville, Syracuse and Duke all reside in it. However, teams like North Carolina State, Miami and Notre Dame are showing that they can keep up.

In the grand scheme of things, this is nothing more than Duke’s first loss of the season. It is still easily one of the most talented teams in the nation, and there is no doubt that it will make the tournament. An ACC team is bound to lose on the road a time or two in conference play, no matter how talented it is.

As for NC State, this is a huge resume builder and shows the college basketball world that it is talented enough to crash the 2015 NCAA tournament.
