The Louisville Cardinals host the Virginia Tech Hokies on Tuesday night in the Derby City in ACC action.

Louisville suffered just its second loss of the season on Saturday when the North Carolina Tar Heels topped Rick Pitino and his squad 72-71 in Chapel Hill. The Cardinals had two shots to win it at the end, but could not convert either attempt.

The Cardinals have four players who are carrying the scoring load this season. Sophomore guard Terry Rozier leads the way, scoring 17.5 points per game. Junior forward Montrezl Harrell, a national player of the year candidate, scores 15.5 points per game and pulls down a team-high nine rebounds per outing. Chris Jones (13.2 ppg) and Wayne Blackshear (12.4 ppg) are the other double-figure scorers for Louisville.

Virginia Tech is 8-7 this season and 0-2 in the ACC. Head coach Buzz Williams and his team had last weekend off and have had a week to prepare for this game against the Cardinals. That’s the good news. The bad news is, the only other ranked opponent the Hokies have faced thumped them earlier this season. That would be the West Virginia Mountaineers, who beat Virginia Tech 82-51 in December.

Freshman guard Justin Bibbs leads the Hokies in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. Junior guard Adam Smith is the only other Virginia Tech player averaging in double figures, scoring 12.7 points per game.

Louisville’s talented squad will bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment and may be able to take out its frustrations on the Hokies. Look for Louisville’s pressure to cause Virginia Tech serious problems, leading to a big Cardinals’ win.

Final score prediction: Louisville 81, Virginia Tech 58
