The Virginia Cavaliers will finally take a deserved place as a top two team in college basketball after the Duke Blue Devils fell to North Carolina State over the weekend and defeating a talented Notre Dame Fighting Irish squad away from home, 62-56.

However, next up for the Cavaliers are the pesky Clemson Tigers, who UVA will face in John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. ET.

Clemson has looked to be a mid-level ACC team this season, but they have upset teams such as the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks and played a close game away from home against Louisville, a 58-52 loss. The Tigers aren’t flashy, and they are definitely not an NCAA Tournament team. However, they are more than capable of pulling off an upset over an elite opponent at any time this season.

Unfortunately for Clemson, Virginia is not the type of team to overlook an opponent on the schedule. UVA boats one of the most efficient teams in all of college basketball, and it’s extremely difficult to find an argument against Tony Bennett being a top five or so coach in the country. Remember, the Cavaliers already survived their trap game away from home against the Miami Hurricanes.

Virginia’s defense and offense are far more talented than Clemson, and although the Tigers should put up a decent fight, this could easily be Clemson’s biggest blowout loss of the season. UVA’s experience should give this young team nightmares; don’t expect an upset unless Virginia has some sort of catastrophic meltdown.

Prediction: Virginia 72, Clemson 56
