The North Carolina Tar Heels host the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina is ranked 15th in the country and enters Sunday’s game with a 13-4 record, including a 3-1 mark in the ACC. The Tar Heels’ last three games have been decided by a total of four points, with UNC winning two of the three. Most recently, Roy Williams and his team topped the N.C. State Wolfpack 81-79 on Wednesday night in Raleigh.

All-American guard Marcus Paige is the leading scorer for North Carolina, averaging 13.9 points per game. Paige played his best game of the season on Wednesday, scoring 23 points against N.C. State.

Kennedy Meeks averages 12.9 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Tar Heels, while Brice Johnson averages 11.2 points per outing.

Virginia Tech is now 8-8 on the season and 0-3 in ACC play. Head coach Buzz Williams is trying to get the Hokies going in the right direction, but it’s been tough. In fact, Virginia Tech has lost its last four games.

Freshman guard Justin Bibbs continues to lead Virginia Tech in scoring at 13.6 points per game. The only other Hokie averaging in double figures is junior guard Adam Smith, who posts 13.1 points per contest.

This game appears to match two teams heading in opposite directions. North Carolina had its struggles early, but appears to be playing perhaps as well as it has all season. On the other hand, Virginia Tech is struggling and things don’t look to get any easier for the Hokies. Virginia Tech’s best hope in this game is that the Tar Heels are overlooking them. But don’t count on that.

Final score prediction: North Carolina 81, Virginia Tech 59
