The Michigan Wolverines have not reached their potential so far this season, and now that Caris LeVert is out for the season, they will never reach their true potential.

LeVert injured his foot in the win over the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday. He is leading the team in PPG, APG, RPG and SPG, and he is also leading the team in three-point percentage by shooting 40.5 percent from the three-point line.

This season has not gone well for the Wolverines at all. Thy have been upset by the N.J.I.T. Highlanders and the Eastern Michigan Eagles this season, two teams that the Wolverines were very capable of beating. The team is 10-7 right now, and they are 4-2 in conference play, but now that LeVert is gone, the Wolverines will not make the NCAA tournament. The team still has to face a majority of strong Big Ten opponents, and none of those games are going to be easy without LeVert.

Zak Irivin and Derrick Walton Jr. are going to have to take their games to another level in LeVert’s absence. They have proven that they can score for the Wolverines, but now they have to score even more. The problem for the Wolverines this season had nothing to do with LeVert, Irvin or Walton; the team lacks a strong interior presence, which really hurts their chances to win meaningful games.

LeVert led the team in RPG and he is a guard. The team cannot make the NCAA tournament unless they find a reliable interior force, but that will not happen this season.

The Wolverines will not make their fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance without LeVert.
