A pair of Big 12 teams coming off of losses meet on Monday when the Texas Longhorns visit the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames.

Texas lost a home game to the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, falling 75-62 at the Erwin Center in Austin. Meanwhile, Iowa State was shocked by Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 78-73 in Lubbock, Texas.

The Longhorns are now 14-5 on the season and 3-3 in the Big 12. Texas has lost three of its last five games after starting the season at 12-2. Inconsistency has been the word to describe Texas lately. Head coach Rick Barnes hopes that his team can put together a more even effort on Monday.

Sophomore guard Isaiah Taylor leads the ‘Horns in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game. Taylor missed 10 games this season due to a broken wrist, but he appeared to be healthy on Saturday, scoring 23 points against Kansas. Jonathan Holmes and Myles Turner each average 11.6 points per game for Texas.

Iowa State appeared to be ready to take over the Big 12 race after beating Kansas on January 17. However, Saturday’s loss left head coach Fred Hoiberg and the Cyclones shaking their collective heads.

Junior forward Georges Niang is Iowa State’s top scorer, averaging 14.6 points per outing. Bryce Dejean-Jones and Naz Long each average 12.4 points per contest, while Dustin Hogue (11.0 points per game) and Monte Morris (10.7) are double figure scorers.

These two teams appear to be very evenly matched, but Iowa State gets the slight edge, due to their surprising loss on Saturday and, more importantly, home court advantage in this game.

Final score prediction: Iowa State 79, Texas 77
