The Big East is arguably the most all-around difficult conference in college basketball, lacking the weak teams at the bottom that many other conferences possess. Unfortunately, this means that several teams that looked to be making the tournament early on in the season have quickly fallen out of the bubble talk.

One of these teams is the St. John’s Red Storm, who were ranked in the top 25 just a few weeks ago, but have gone 3-6 since entering conference play. At 14-7 overall, the Johnnies need a miracle to make the 2015 NCAA tournament. However, they will get an opportunity to take a step closer when they face the No. 22 Butler Bulldogs away from home on Tuesday, February 3, at 7 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

Unlike St. John’s, Butler continues to bounce back from every loss, having only lost back to back games once this season. In their last game, the Bulldogs almost lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles, but were able to overcome 36 combined points by Matt Carlino and Duane Wilson to pull out the win. If the tournament started today, Butler would be in. However, if they lose a couple down the stretch, the Bulldogs could find themselves on the bubble.

The matchup in this game to watch will be whether or not Butler can contain Chris Obekpa on the inside. Everyone knows the Bulldogs can score from the outside and rebound very well with Kameron Woods, but this game will be won and lost on St. John’s ability or inability to create second-chance opportunities.

Give this game to Butler, but eventually St. John’s will go one a winning streak in the Big East. Don’t be surprised if it starts Tuesday.
