Penn State vs. Ohio State: Game Preview, Prediction

The Ohio State Buckeyes have quietly fought their way back into the hunt for the Big 10 title, despite a recent loss to the Purdue Boilermakers. Just two and a half games behind conference leaders the Wisconsin Badgers, the Buckeyes’ lone ranked remaining opponent is in the last game of the season against the Badgers, whereas Wisconsin faces four top 100 RPI teams away from home.

However, the Buckeyes cannot look ahead on the schedule, because next up for Ohio State will be the Penn State Nittany Lions, who currently have an RPI of 88 and are a dangerous team with an elite scorer in D.J. Newbill. These teams will face off on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. ET on the Big Team Network.

It sounds crazy to say, but Penn State is perhaps the most underrated team in the Big 10. Top to bottom the Big 10 is not as difficult as the Big 12 or the Big East, but the Nittany Lions are an extremely talented team which has lost only one game by double digits this season. Penn State may be 3-8, but they are legitimately capable of pulling off some major upsets down the stretch.

However, I am not calling the upset in this one, because the Buckeyes are at home where Ohio State has been dominant this season. Penn State will knock off a Big 10 title contender in the next few weeks, but it’s not going to be Ohio State, as the Buckeyes get it done at Value City Arena.

Prediction: Ohio State 69, Penn State 61
