Several Teams Across College Basketball Are Being Exposed By Injuries

Injuries Are Showing Teams' True Colors

Injuries, injuries and more injuries are affecting many teams in college basketball this season. Obviously major injuries tend to happen every season in college basketball, but this year there seem to be more injuries that are affecting some of the tops teams in the nation.

Take the VCU Rams for example. This team was playing some of the best basketball in the country at the beginning of Atlantic 10 play. Once they lost Briante Weber for the season, the Rams have been struggling to find their identity. The team has lost three of their last four games to very weak conference opponents. Their leading scorer, Treveon Graham, has also been off the floor with an ankle injury. This has been a nightmare scenario for VCU; the team needs Graham back on the floor as soon as possible before the Rams end up with a terrible seed for the NCAA tournament.

On the other hand, not all injuries are detrimental to a team’s success. Look at the Wisconsin Badgers; they lost Traevon Jackson to a foot injury in a loss against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Jan. 11. Other than the loss to Rutgers, the Badgers have looked sensational without their floor general. Frank Kaminsky has showed why he is one of the best players in the country, Sam Dekker has stepped up his offensive game and Bronson Koenig has played great in the absence of Jackson. The Badgers have became stronger without Jackson, which is a scary to think about.

Time will tell whether or not the Virginia Cavaliers can still find ways to win without their best player, Justin Anderson. The Cavs did pull off a victory against the N.C. State Wolfpack last night, but the team needed a strong effort from every player t0 enter the game. Anderson is crucial to the Cavaliers, which is why it will be interesting to see if they can still beat some of the top teams in the ACC. The Cavaliers are still one of the best teams in the country, but without Anderson, they will struggle on the offensive end at times.

Injuries can end a team’s NCAA tournament chances, or injuries can allow other players to step up and play inspired basketball.
