The Michigan Wolverines saw their chance to save their season slip away by losing four straight, including two overtime games to the Michigan State Spartans and Illinois Fighting Illini, a three point loss to the Indiana Hoosiers and a blowout loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Despite recent results and the loss of Caris LeVert, this team still has the talent to do the impossible by winning the Big 10 tournament and earning the automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA tournament.

However, the first step on Michigan’s path to redemption will be a win over rivals Michigan State, who travel to Crisler Center on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Michigan State has won four of their last five games, including a huge win over the then ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. The Spartans have navigated conference play fairly well, getting a few big wins while avoiding upsets to much weaker teams. Although MSU are not as strong as we normally expect them to be, Tom Izzo’s squads always play better and better as the season gets closer to March. Watch this team take a huge step forward down the stretch.

Michigan must win this game if they are to improve their conference tournament seeding drastically before March, but that’s most likely not going to happen. The Wolverines are a good team, but Michigan State seems to be getting things together at the right times. Expect the Spartans to win on the road, and Michigan’s downward spiral to continue.

Prediction: Michigan State 68, Michigan 65
