Matchup: Gonzaga Bulldogs (27-1) vs. Saint Mary’s Gaels (20-6)

The Bulldogs are cooking. Their last loss came way back on Dec. 6. Will they lose again? More than likely in the dance, but as for the regular season, more than likely not.

The Gaels have had a solid season as well, but they just aren’t as talented as Gonzaga. In fact, the last meeting between these two (Jan. 22) was won by the Bulldogs with ease (68-47).

Saint Mary’s may be the second best team in the WCC, but Gonzaga is in a completely different class.

What to Watch For

Gonzaga is putting up 80 points per contest, which is good enough for 10th best in college basketball. Kyle Wiltjer (yeah, that one guy who used to be on the Kentucky Wildcats) is leading the team with 17.4 points per game.

Saint Mary’s does have one thing Gonzaga doesn’t have, and that is a Brad Waldow. He is averaging 19.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Prediction

The Gaels should keep it closer at home this time around, but they are going to need a near-perfect game if they plan on pulling off this upset.

I suppose there is a chance if Saint Mary’s can trade blow for blow. In the end, Gonzaga will sweep the season series, win the WCC title and, more than likely, earn a No. 1 seed in the upcoming dance.

There is a reason why many people are saying this is the best Bulldogs team yet — they are really, really good.
